And here is my story........ 10 years after my first rally I decided to make a few calls and get a Kar organised for the 2007 Darwin to Dubbo Rally. I found a 1971 Toyota Crown with a holden V8 advertised for $750 in the paper.....45mins later it was mine. Then we began to tinker....and tinker ....and tinker.... First thing we had to do was get this car off the ground...Lovells help with some nissan patrol springs...Yes nissan patrol..springs....we also fitted a 2" lift kit to get the body off the chassis, a 140L fuel tank was flown down from Townsville compliments of ebay. Now comes the fun stuff...It went to Smithfield Diff and Gear for a diff conversion the original banjo wasnt going to cut the mustard..so a reborn R31 skyline diff was transformed to fit nicely....Sorry Guys....while it was on the hoist I took the opportunity to do a few little things....only took me 3 weeks to leave...Thanks Anthony,Ralph and Pat...(if anyone needs diff/gearbox work dont tell them you know me) Bond Roll bars put in some protection...(2008 tested the roll cage), then it was seats from Just Jap at Kirrawee, a set of guages from VDO and some cup holders...and we were ready to roll (literally) Engine tweaks compliments of RPM motorsport and noise thanks to Bruce/Rebecca at Exhaust Perfection...needless to say it runs well and sounds good. |
